Lavender has Office Hours!

Councilmember Ysabel Jurado announced during the Skid Row Town Hall Roundtable on February 11th that Lavender McCovey is now a Field Deputy for Council District 14 dedicated to Skid Row. This is the first time that a Councilmember (Kevin de Leon, Jose Huizar, Jan Perry, etc.) has designated a Field Deputy specifically for Skid Row.

Councilmember Jurado made a campaign promise of a monthly Town Hall for Skid Row. Town Halls in general, and traditionally in Skid Row as well, involve an “open mic” time where folks can ask questions and/or make comments. This didn’t happen on February 11th because the organizers did not want to distract from a focus on the new Downtown Community Plan. And so it was called a Skid Row Town Hall Roundtable to communicate this was a special type of Town Hall.

Lavender (who has a serious wardrobe of lavender colored clothes) will not be based in City Hall, but will be setting up CD-14 Office Hours in different spaces in and around Skid Row.

As for the Town Hall Roundtable that took place, it was an information fire hose and so folks can watch the video when it’s posted to get a taste of what implementing the Downtown Community Plan might look like.

I hope Councilmember Jurado will be coming back into Skid Row for another Town Hall soon.

And so…..Lavender has Office Hours!
